Writing

This should be closely supervised.  Practice does not make perfect, it makes permanent. Please discuss the correct starting points for each letter. Watch your child attempt the letter. Give corrective feedback if needed.

Children can write about any topics that they like. You may like your child to write on paper, an exercise book or in their own books that they make themselves.

Suggestions for writing (although not exclusive to these) :

  • A diary of what they do each day

  • Ideas from family activities and/or play

  • Retelling a favourite story or fairytale that they know

  • Shopping lists

  • A list of movies you watch, games you play or your favourite toys

  • Cards or letters to people outside your bubble

  • Made up stories about absolutely anything!

We would like to share some short pieces of published writing with other class members via Seesaw. This will help keep students connected.

Spelling

Students have an information sheet about supporting spelling at home in their homework books along with spelling lists. Once a list is known, start on the next list. The full set of lists can be found on the Harewa Home Learning portal along with helpful videos for learning the words on each list. Children that have just started school will not have spelling lists in their books yet
